My first trip to Bali was full of temple tours, I must say when you see one you’ve seen it all, except for one that really stands out amongst the temples scattered all over Bali that includes even the biggest temple they called mother of all temples.
This temple was the last in our itinerary but looks like saving the best for last mode I was referring to the icon of Bali the temple on the lake – Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, located in Lake Bratan, Bedugul.
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan (Lake Bratan Temple) after Tanah Lot, this is perhaps the most photographed temple on the island and is certainly one of the iconic images of Bali.
The temple sits on the western shore of Lake Bratan and it can give the illusion of actually floating on the water. Built in 1633, the temple is devoted to Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu, goddess of the lake. A beautiful temple in a truly stunning setting.
It’s 59 kms from Seminyak and approximately 1 hour drive. but if you are in a tour there are several pit stops…more temples to see before the Icon.
I was so mesmerized about this temple. Hmm maybe it’s subjective but when I entered the area, I was not expecting it would be exceptional, as usual there were a lot of hawkers and what have you in the area that sometimes they can really get into your skin!
At the entrance, I read their rules and regulations and mmm I chuckled a bit I was thinking how would they know when a woman have a monthly period? Is “honesty is the best policy” really applied here?
So I walked past some small praying areas, at that time it looked like a school holiday of sort as there were a lot of students with their teachers in tow.
When I finally saw the temple…there it was floating on a lake with majestic mountain back draft, it was foggy that day looks like the mist added some wow factor !
Awed struck! I was loving the sight. I’m lost of words actually but it just feels so calm and relax! The vast lake just gave me a goose bumps. Maybe I get too dramatic or maybe I was just too engrossed with the sight !
They offer boat ride on the lake, I must say it would be a nice experienced, but nah I was alone which was not the plan, my hubby was on the other side of Bali having a diving course.
I walked near the temple and absorbed the energy from the temple Have some pictures taken and seated for a while and just lost in the world.
It is a small temple not like the other temples but boy ambiance here is different and you really need to put this temple in your itinerary an hour drive is worth it Thanks for reading, till next time!
