My first trip to Bali was full of temple tours, I must say when you see one you’ve seen it all, except for one that really stands out amongst the temples scattered all over Bali that includes even the biggest temple they called mother of all temples.
This temple was the last in our itinerary but looks like saving the best for last mode 😉 I was referring to the icon of Bali the temple on the lake – Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, located in Lake Bratan, Bedugul.
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan (Lake Bratan Temple) after Tanah Lot, this is perhaps the most photographed temple on the island and is certainly one of the iconic images of Bali.
The temple sits on the western shore of Lake Bratan and it can give the illusion of actually floating on the water. Built in 1633, the temple is devoted to Ida Batara Dewi Ulun Danu, goddess of the lake. A beautiful temple in a truly stunning setting.
It’s 59 kms from Seminyak and approximately 1 hour drive. but if you are in a tour there are several pit stops…more temples to see before the Icon. 😉
I was so mesmerized about this temple. Hmm maybe it’s subjective but when I entered the area, I was not expecting it would be exceptional, as usual there were a lot of hawkers and what have you in the area that sometimes they can really get into your skin! 😛
